Hoya Sq100 Clear Mist 1/8

Hoya Sq100 Clear Mist 1/8

The Hoya Sq100 Clear Mist 1/8 filter is an effects filter that diffuses light whilst preserving the original colour balance and contrast. This creates a cinematic look that makes the filter perfect for both photography and videography. The Sq100 Clear Mist is available in two densities – 1/4 and 1/8 – giving the artist complete freedom to choose the desired strength for each individual situation.

The Hoya Sq100 Clear Mist creates a soft effect by spreading light around light sources. This reduces overall sharpness and gives the image an artistic, cinematic feel, allowing the photographer to create an atmosphere with a touch of "dreamy", "calming", or "peaceful" quality. Compared to Black Mist filters, the Clear Mist filter has no impact on contrast and therefore does not produce a vintage effect.

In portrait photography, the Clear Mist smooths the skin texture of the subject through its diffusing effect, making the person appear more attractive or approachable.

Choose between 1/4 and 1/8 for the optimal density

The Sq100 Clear Mist is available in 1/4 and 1/8, with the 1/4 offering the overall stronger softening effect. In situations with strong light sources close to the camera or intense backlighting, the 1/8 is usually preferable to avoid an overpowering effect. In low-light situations, night landscapes with distant light sources, or settings with minimal backlighting, the 1/8 may prove too subtle, making the 1/4 the preferred choice for a more clearly visible effect.
