Hoya Sq100 Black Mist 1/8

The Hoya Sq100 Black Mist 1/8 filter is an effect filter that diffuses light while lowering overall contrast. This creates a classic cinematic look that makes the filter perfect for both photo and videography. The Sq100 Black Mist is available in two densities - 1/4 and 1/8 - allowing the artist to freely choose the desired strength for each individual situation.

The Sq100 Black Mist creates a soft mellow effect by diffusing light around light sources, while also lowering overall contrast. This reduces the overall sharpness and gives the image a classic and timeless look with a touch of vintage, similar to the style prevalent in cinema. The filter also excels in landscape photography, where it can scatter sunlight, making it ideal in environments such as sunsets or with sun rays coming through the tops of trees.

Thanks to its scattering effect, the Sq100 Black Mist is also great for portrait shots. It softens skin texture and reduces overall contrast, making models look stylish and classy.

Choose between 1/4 and 1/8 for optimum density

The Sq100 Black Mist is available as 1/4 and 1/8, with the 1/4 having the overall stronger softening effect. In situations with strong light sources close to the camera or strong backlight, the 1/8 is usually preferable to avoid too strong an effect. In low-light situations, a nightscape with light sources far away or settings with little backlight, the 1/8 may prove too subtle, making the 1/4 preferable for a clearer visible effect.
