What to look for when buying a drone?
Buying a drone is not something you do on impulse. There are several important points to consider before making a choice, especially if you're just starting out.
1. Purpose: Do you want to take aerial photos, race, vlog, or simply fly for fun? A drone for photography has different features than a racing drone or selfie drone. Determine your goal first.
2. Camera and image quality: Pay attention to resolution (1080p, Full HD, 4K or higher), whether a gimbal is present for stabilisation, and whether RAW photo capture is available. The more stable the drone, the higher the quality of your content.
3. Flight time: The average flight time is between 15 and 30 minutes. Longer flight time means more time in the air without swapping batteries. Keep in mind that wind conditions can significantly reduce flight time.
4. Range and control: Common drones have a range of several hundred metres, while professional models can reach several kilometres. Some drones are controlled via an app, others via a dedicated remote controller with live video feed.
5. GPS and sensors: GPS helps with stable flight, automatic return, and tracking preset routes. Drones with obstacle detection add an extra layer of safety — especially for beginners.
