Canon has various full-frame models in both the DSLR series and the modern system camera lineup. The best-known series are the EOS 5D and 6D DSLRs and the EOS R system cameras. You can recognise these models by the specifications where the sensor size is equal to 35mm film.

Within the system cameras, the models from the Canon EOS R series fall under the full-frame category. Popular cameras include the Canon EOS R5, EOS R6, and the accessible EOS R8. These models combine the large sensor with the RF lens mount for optimal communication between camera and lens.

A full-frame sensor captures more light and offers more control over depth of field than an APS-C sensor. This makes full-frame the best choice for portraits, landscapes, and low-light photography. However, an APS-C sensor has a crop factor that provides extra reach, which is advantageous for sports photography and wildlife photography.

For a full-frame DSLR, you use lenses with an EF mount, and for system cameras, you use RF lenses. While you may sometimes be able to mount lenses for smaller sensors, the camera will automatically crop the image. For maximum image quality and to take full advantage of the sensor, you should always choose lenses specifically designed for full-frame.
